Invitation Letter for Singapore vacation December 8, 2009

One of my friends posted something in Facebook about his friend having been denied to go to Singapore in DMIA, Clark when he failed to produce an Invitation Letter with Seal from Philippine Embassy in Singapore in a closed envelope. Some commented that there's such a thing. Here's what i did to get one:

Philippine Embassy
Office Hours: SUN - THU 9am-12pm and 1:30pm-5pm

Bring
- IC or EPASS or SPASS
- Your Passport
- Pen
- Photocopy of Passport (the page with ID)
- Copy of Passport of visitor
- Age (this would be in handy in filling-up the form)

I went on Sunday around 1:30PM and there were a lot of people outside. They were controlling the people coming in already since it's jammed packed inside. Just inform the guard that your purpose is for notarization only. They only control the Passport application and renewals.

There's a guard house to the right where everyone needs to register however when i told them that i just came to get a notarized invitation letter he just pointed me towards Window 5 so if you want once you're in just go directly to Window 5.

They're just 5 of us in the line at first. When it's my turn i told the officer i want to get the notarized application form. He asked me for whom and i said for my Wife's cousin whose visiting. I guess they just want to make sure that it's really for vacation purposes.

He gave me an Affidavit form and pointed me to the long table at the back. There are sample forms posted in the table (For invitation letter, for affidavit of loss, etc.)

Once I'm done i went to Window 5 again. He checked then told me to go to Window 9 for payment. The amount is S$42.50. I brought the form with attached receipt back to Window 5 and waited for my name to be called. That's it. Just make sure the form has a red seal and it's really yours.

UPDATE 30Dec2011: A comment from jcam
jel,,

Jel,,salamat sa mga infos.. merry xmas and happy new year to everyone..

Disclaimer: This is my own personal experience only. Do check the embassy for latest procedures.

hi did u send the original to the Philippines or just a scanned copy?

Jel said...

I'm not sure about that. What i did was i brought the invitation letter when i went back to PH then my Guest and I went back to SG at the same time. I just found out that you only need the invitation letter if the one your inviting is going to SG alone. However a lot of my recent friends didn't require this kind of invitation when they went through NAIA so in that case simple letter with your signature detailing the duration of stay, your address, etc will suffice. You can just email the scanned copy to your guest. Most of the stories i heard is that they encountered this problem in Clark DMIA.

For Singaporean inviting a Filipino friend, is the employment letter compulsory?

Jel said...

I believe so. You can confirm with them as well. See previous post.

An invitation letter is normally required by the country one is visiting. I don't understand why the Philippines Bureau of Immigration imposes such a rule. It only makes life more difficult for the filipinos. I cannot see in what way this can benefit them. I really feel sad for the filipinos.

Reply from the Vice Consul in Singapore Philippine Embassy:

"Please be informed that the Affidavit of Invitation, or the invitation letter, may be required by the Immigration officer at the airport in the Philippines to verify the traveler's status as a bonafide tourist. This requirement was reinstituted as a preventive measure against illegal recruitment and human trafficking, which has recently risen in incidence.
The sponsor or host in Singapore will need to execute the Affidavit of Invitation at the Embassy for the person in the Philippines being invited. This Affidavit, in the original, may be requested by the Philippine Bureau of Immigration upon the departure of the invitee from the Philippines.
This Affidavit of Invitation is not a guarantee that the invitee will be allowed to travel and enter Singapore."

hi,

im going to singapore this month for just a vacation for a week and as far as my frend in singapore just bring my company Id, return ticket, passport. you think i can pass in the both immigration PHIL & SG?

Jel said...

I think you won't have any problem as long as you tell the immigration officer that you'll be staying for just 1 week and your return ticket proves that. However, unless you're staying in a hotel' ask your friend to send you an email of a scanned letter of invitation stating your friends address, FIN or IC and signature. This can be as simple as word doc. Just in case the officer requested an invitation letter.

Hi my name is Jane, I just want to share my BAD story. i'been in singapore last month for a week vacation.. but i have a very bad experience in our immigration.. when i present my passport and my ticket to the IO (immigration officer) at the window at terminal III. he asked me if i am working in singapore. i said no i'm not, i am a tourist. he then answered "tourist ka? bakit wala ka ticket pabalik? Then i told him " excuse me it's a two-way ticket! Then he replied "ah basta pumasok ka dun sa opisina mgpaalam ka kung papayagan ka." (I was surprised because he's been working as an IO for a long time i think because he is an old man maybe 50-60 of age, but then he dont know what is a two-way ticket). It's ok, so I go inside the office and the assigned officer (Lets call him Mr.T) give me a form to fill-up and the other 2 ladies who also travelling alone (i am not pretty and no offend, the two other girls are not pretty also, i just noticed and i don't know if it make sense) i fill-up the form, some of the questions i remember it the form are... what is your purpose of visit to singapore, when is your departure manila-singapore and singapore-manila, my address in singapore, who invited me, who buy my ticket, how much is my ticket, how much is my pocket money, do i have a visa/master card, etc.... and then upon completing the application form Mr.T asked me if i have an invitation letter, so i gave him an invitation from my friend, attached in there is my friend's NRIC ID and passport copy. He asked me for my company ID so i show him my ID, He asked me where is my leave form, i show him my leave form... haayyysss... and after that i was still denied... i already think that this might happen to me because i have a friend working in the immigration told me to bring all those requirements because those are the possible requirements the IO may ask from me.. if i cannot present any of them i might be denied.. and they are doing this for a "LAGAY" and that is P1500.. this is the dirty business in the immigration...
As much as possible i don't want to asked help to my friend inside the immigration AGAIN because last june 2010 when my cousin was to have a vacation in singapore she was also hold in the immigration at terminal II. she also bring the same requirements i have except for the passport copy of her friend who invited her, the IO officer told her to call her friend in singapore and fax a copy of her passport within 30 minutes.. so i called my friend who is working the immigration for a help, so she helped my cousin..
This time... my turn... i call my friend again for a help, but before i did that i first asked Mr.T like this... "what about P1500, can u help me?" he answered "Tignan natin kung magagawan natin ng paraan." but ofcourse i did not pay him P1500, instead i call my friend working in the immigration and whose Mother is also an IO and holding a higher position than Mr.T. Her mother just phone called one of the IO in terminal III, and then Mr.T go inside the room bringing all my requirements and then when He came back He just smiled at me and said.. "1 week lang po kayo dun ha.. Balik po kayo dun sa window, patatakan nyo na.." that was the first time i saw Him smiling and treat me nice because he is so BASTOS.... And so much for that, I had my 1 week vacation, leaving a very bad experience in the immigration.. i dont know what happend in the other two ladies.. i just said to my self "kawawa nmn sila kung wala sila kakilala sa loob.." So this is my story! a very bad unforgetable experience with IO...

Hello Jel,

Im planning to go to Singapore on November, I will go there alone as a tourist for a week visit, I have no friends there, and I will just stay in a 2-star hotel only (much cheaper).

Will I encounter any problems on the immigration here in the Phils and in SG, since I have no invitation letter?

Thanks,
James

Jel said...

Hi James,

As you said you're only staying for 1 week so your return ticket will reflect that. Bring also a printed copy of your online booking or reservation of the 2 star hotel you're staying.

Just in case bring some documents that proves that you're still currently employed in the Philippines.

If by any chance you encounter some problems just state the facts. Invitation Letter is for those tourist who has a friend here in Singapore that you can crash to.

hi! i think this policy is quite stupid... is there a law stating that a citizen of a Philippines cannot go out of the Philippines without any invitation letter. maybe yes, if u have any criminal record, or there's a lawsuit and prohibits you from exiting the country. but besides that, i cannot find any reason of Filipinos living the country either they just want to spend their holiday or to find job.
Its just...a single stamp for almost $50? thats crazy. i bought my ticket for around S$250 and then i have to pay another S$50 for the invitation? I think the immigration officers in the Philippines cant hold u back unless there's a legal issue, but its up to the Singaporean immigration officer if they will allow u to enter their country or not...

Hello Jel,

Can I ask something re: applying for jobs in Singapore?

What is GCE N, GCE O Level - (What is their equivalent here in the Philippines). Is it HighSchool, right?

also,

I am only an undergraduate (1 year college), but still, I want to try my luck in Singapore. I have 8 years of working experience in different companies, mostly encoding jobs.

Are there still chances for me?
Even in Fastfoods or Retail Stores, Malls, Bars, Restaurant, or whatever (except construction jobs coz Im unfit for that)?

At tsaka po, kapag po ba sa ganun maliliit lang na establishments, like mga retail stores, or small restaurants and bars, sila rin po ba ang nag-aayos ng work permits katulad nun mga big companies na sila ang nag-aayos ng papers?

Maraming Salamat sa'yo Jel,

God bless...
Edwin

Jel said...

Hi Edwin,

I'll try my best to answer.

For GCE here's a link:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080103174229AAfFYFI

Unfortunately wala akong first hand experience regarding sa paghahanap sa Food and Beverage Industry. Puro kuwento lang mga naririnig ko. Yun lang ung mga maishashare ko.

First is yung experience mo sa encoding e mismatch sa plano mong applyan d2.

Agencies ung nagaayos ng Work Permits.

Before ka pumunta d2, my advice is make sure na at least may work na nagaantay syo.

Pleasant day Jel,

I have some inquiries regarding going there to SG.

I plan to go there alone in mid-December, as a tourist then want to try to find a job.
This is my first time to go outside Philippines.
But, aside from reading some articles online, I have also heard that an Invitation Letter is a must nowadays.

I have no way of having an Invitation Letter, coz I got no relatives and even friends in SG, what do you think I should do?

And if ever theres an alternative way I could do to pass through PH and SG immigration, how much money should I need for a 1-month stay, including job hunting?

A simple invitation would suffice. Include your complete address, duration of visit, purpose of visit and your signature then email to him the scanned copy.

As long as he has a retun ticket matching the duration of visit then it should be ok.

He can also bring some supporting documents that proves he's still employed in Philippines.

It would also help if he previously went out of country before which will reflect in his passport. Ask him to bring a backpack as a handcarry which will make him seem like a backpacker tourist.

However i must warn you that this is not foolproof. If you saw previous comments the immigration officer can ask for any documents. Just tell your bf not to be intimidated and just state the facts.

So please don't blame me if he encounters any problem ;)

Hi Jel,

Sorry sa mga tanong ha, first time eh.

Tenks po
Dorris

Jel,

What some Low Level positions are in demand in SG, that an Undergraduate Filipino could apply to?

Thanx,
Junior

Jel said...

Hi Dorris,

We always arrive in the airport 2 hours before the flight. This should be sufficient enough. Check-in ka lang agad.

If i remember correctly, may types of Airline tickets. Pag sale tickets usually they're not flexible. Yung medyo mahal na tickets ay flexible meaning you can change booking dates without charge. For example sa Jetstar they have JetSaver and JetFlex (Anyone can correct me on this if i'm wrong).

Regarding hotels, i've never tried booking an hotel before here in Singapore pero assuming na pareho lang sila ng procedures ng hotels sa Manila i believe they have certain policies as to how many days you should give them notice that you'd like to change your booking date. Contact them via email or phone. Responsive naman ang mga hotels. During reservation you do not pay upfront but they will require you to give your credit card no. This will serve as a guarantee just in case you do not make good on your reservation. They will charge you with a fee if you don't show up. If you encounter problems just contact them.

Prepare your itinerary like what tourist spots you're planning to go. At least when they ask you this you have a ready answer. Kasi kung tourist ka tlga you should have an idea kung san mo gustong pumunta.

By the way I think the maximum cash in pesos you can bring outside the country is 10k. So bring your credit card just in case. It's good to travel light and keep your valuables and travel docs safe.

I think immigration really just wants to prevent human trafficking but of course there are really bad apples. Another tip is observe the crowd na nakapila sa immigration. Just to increase your chances.

Other than that enjoy and have a safe trip :)

Please go to Pinoy Singapore Life facebook page. You can see it on the right of this site. Just "Like" it. Thanks.

Hi Junior,

Unfortunately i'm not familiar with those kind of things. What i can tell you is this:

- Look for accredited agency list in www.philippine-embassy.org.sg/
- Go to Jobsites like Monster, Jobsdb, Jobstreet or do a search in google of the job you're planning to apply then Singapore e.g. Waiter+Singapore

Good luck :)

Hi Jel,

I have known that there are some problems in Philippine immigration down here in the Philippines Because I have friends that who wants to go to Singapore to visit some of their relatives but they was denied in the immigrations because they cannot produce the authenticated invitation letter form Philippine embassy in singapore. What can you say about this? What if you want to go anywhere around the world you need the authenticated invitation letter from the embassy of all the country that you are going to visit. That is stupidity right? I hope that the person who implement this will realize what they are doing.

Jel said...

I totally agree. If they're going to implement something like this they should announce it on Embassies, news, prints, internet and any other media of communication.
There should also be clear guidelines that we can follow so that we're not shooting in the dark. I understand that they're trying to prevent illegal recruitment but the way they discriminate is just preposterous.

Anonymous said...

I think the policy was implemeted for the government agency to have additional income. That's it. They are encapable of annoucing their new policy in a way that every Filipino can easily get notified. With this very poor implementation, the time and money are wasted. I just had a friend who got denied today at Clark DMIA.

Is the other airport other than Clark will not have this problem?

Hi Jel,
I am very thankful that you really a great help for us to be more informed regarding the to/fro to SG. I would like to ask you, if my sister will be going here in SG, do she really need an invitation letter from PH embassy or just a letter of invitation coming from me? Hope you will answer me soon. Have a nice day!

Jel said...

Thanks, i'm glad i can help.

Regarding your question, it all boils down to minimizing the "chance" of having problems in immigration. If your accompanying her from Phil to SG then most likely she will go through without hitch and would no longer require any invitation letter (readers...do correct me if i'm wrong here). So only you can decide. Sorry if i don't have a definite answer but that's the reality of it. Do share your experience whatever you decide.

Hi, unfortunately i really can't give you a direct answer to that. As you've already read, wala talagang assurance. If you really can't give your cousins the authenticated IL just tell them to bring all the docs na magpapatunay na may steady jobs or business sila back home. Just do a back read of the comments in this post and you'll find a lot of tips. Please share their experience afterwards. The more information we can get the better.

This is weird. My husband and I went to Singapore last December 2010 for 4 days. We even stayed at a friend's house not at a hotel. I did not recall any instance from the Immigration at PAL Terminal II for an invitation letter or even any required documents of such. It is only now when I'm planning to go back have I got these notions.

Jel said...

It might be because you only stayed for 4 days and fly via PAL which is not part of the budget terminal but I'm just speculating here.

My friend invited me to Singapore to apply in the company she is working in. I was given a hard time by the Philippine Immigration in Manila.

I told them that I will be visiting as a tourist for three weeks. But they asked for an invitation letter.

I was asked to go to the Immigration Supervisor and was told to fill out a form. They asked for my company ID which I didn't have anymore because I returned it to my company. I had to lie that I left it and that I was on leave. They had told me that my company should fax a certificate of employment to them. I called my former employer, who was very supportive. He right away faxed them the COE and voila! I am currently working in Singapore...
The Singapore Immigration Officers are very respectful and polite. I feel very sorry for us as Filipinos. We have a very rich country but the people who serve us are so dirty and corrupt, even those in the low positions are like that.
My boyfriend is coming here next month. His ticket says he will be back in the Philippines after eight days but he is hoping to find a job here in the field of Architecture. I will be preparing the invitation letter and will be mailing it to him. I am praying that he will stay here for good.
That's why our country is not improving.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sure someone out there will find it useful. Do share your BF's experience as well.

hi jel,

I just want to ask how long is the validity of the authenticated invitation letter? i had one dated january 23 , 2011. I am not sure if it is still acceptable.

ginamit ko kasi yun last january 28 kaso na-offload ako for the reason na hindi raw kaya ng uncle ko na gastusan ako sa singapore dahil uncle ko ang nag-invite sa akon.

so i want to try again this but not sure if my invitation letter is still valid.

thank you,

hi!

thank you for your blogsite. i finally found someone whom i can ask.

i already have a authenticated invitation letter as a tourist to singapore from my uncle dated january 23 , 2011 . I just want to know if valid pa yun if ngayon pa lang ako magtravel ulit

na-offload kasi last jan 28. dapat nakaalis na ako kaso di ako lumampas sa immigration sa clark-dmia.. please answer really need to know if i need to get a new invitation letter from embassy.

thanks a lot.

according to ph embassy here in sg its valid for 1 year but one time use only.

thanks,
Nhel

Jel said...

Money for what?

For Nhel, YUng boyfriend mo lang ang pwedeng kumuha ng IL for both of you since sya yung may valid work pass dito sa SIngapore.

nakakainis talaga ang philippine immigration. I had a 2 way ticket yesterday , it was my flight to singapore . I have aunthenticated invitation letter from my uncle and a 60,000 php in cash which i just borrowed from a friend and i've state that i will be staying in sg for 3 days but still they did not allow me,, they told me that what they need is a bank certificate and what i showed them is not enough.
well i wasn't really a tourist i have a job waiting for me there. It was my first time to travel. I cannot blame my employer for not helping me to get a poea knowing what kind of mentality the government is. my employer said that they were ask for too much money, so i have no choice but get out of the country as a tourist. nakakahiya man sabihin pero lantaran ang corruption talaga. i don't know if they are just really doing there job.

fyi, I'm not connected to any government agencies. I can only share what I have personally experienced. For those asking about what and how to get an invitation letter please read original post. For tips please read through the comments as youre questions might already been asked.

For anonymous whose planning to study islam, you do realize that you can also do that in the philippines. The immigration officer might raise this question to you.

To everyone, the only person you need to convince is the immigration officer. if you encounter discriminating or abusive IO please take their names or look at their id tags and report them. what the other person did was to queue to a different line when he encountered an IO asking for bribe.

i sincerely wish all of you good luck.

He/She must have a valid work pass or PR or Citizen in Singapore.

Kapag b nakapasok kn d2 sa Singapore ok lng b n mg-extend cya at maghanap ng trabaho d2..d nmn b bawal..kasi pagkakaalam ko nakalagay sa invitation letter is as tourist lang or something like that...thanks in advance..hope to here your reply soon..

Jel said...

Hindi assurance ang may authenticated IL. Nasa IO pa rin yung decision. Frustrating dba.

Yung nilalagay sa IL yung basic lang like your name, purpose of invitation, your address, etc. May template ka namang susundan. Fifillup-an mo na lang.

Kahit ilang beses kang magextend.

Hi!

My brother is an E-pass holder in Singapore. My parents who are 67 and 65 years old, are going to visit him there for 10 days. They will be staying with him but they will also have pocket money and credit card of their own. Do they still need to provide a Philippine Embassy authenticated invitation from my brother considering their age? (Hindi naman na siguro sila pagdududahan that they will try to find a job there?) Or a simple invitation from my brother together with a copy of his E-pass would suffice? Thank you in advance for your reply.

Jel said...

Hi Jasmin,

I really can't say since i'm not sure kung gaano kasukdulan ang corruption ng ibang IO. Does anyone here have a similar experience like Jasmin?

Anonymous said...

Hi Jel,
I am currently working as EPass holder dito sa SG. I will be going home to Phils soon and coming back to SG after a week.

Jel said...

I will keep you guys posted kung anong mangyayari.

I'm thankful nakita ko ang post mo.
Binasa ko lahat ng comments!

Jel said...

Enrico,

I guess you need to have a very good reason para bumalik sa SG after 2 weeks. You don't have any options but to convince the IO. Mukha namang wala ng atrasan yan e. Good luck.

hi jel i'll be in singapore for 7 days only but im planning to extend there para hanap ng work..Ask sana ako na ok lang ba talaga walang IL kasi sabay naman kami ng friend ko papunta don?problema ko lang kasi mayfriend din sya na sasabay tpos 4 days lang ang ticket...another question is ano ba magandang reason since yung husband ko is working sa korea ngayon?

Jel said...

You can extend whenever you want but there's no assurance na maaapprove. Yes, to my knowledge, basta kasabay mo yung naginvite ok lang walang IL. It defeats the purpose kasi.

Hi Jel...My sister is flying to Singapore on Tuesday night again. She has been denied once at DMIA last week, immigration officers told her she dont hav the capability to be a tourist as she don't have work in the Philippines..I just dont understand why this is happening, she has all the necessary documents, invitation letter and show money still they didn't approved it...what we did was im going to send someone to go to the Philippines to scort her in coming to Singapore...do you think she won't encounter another problem at the immigration the fact that she has someone from Singapore with her?

Anonymous said...

yes, Clark DMIA is notoriuos when it comes to this Invitation letter. They will deny you just for this reason...
Hangang mapilitan kang maglagay kung may pagkakataon?

In my plane ticket it is indicate (kuwait-singapore-manila). i have some questions to you. 1. do i need invitation letter from girlfriend? 2. do you think IO they will allow me to stay just for 2 weeks in SG?and lastly. 3. Can i extend for another 1 week to stay in SG after april 19? if you don't mine can you pls email me. mc07mc@yahoo.com tnx jel hope you respond immediately.

Jel said...

1. do i need invitation letter from girlfriend? Since you're coming from kuwait i don't know if they require IL in Kuwait. When you're in Singapore they seldom ask IL. A simple IL will do in Singapore IO.
2. do you think IO they will allow me to stay just for 2 weeks in SG? Singapore IO usually gives 30 days.
3. Can i extend for another 1 week to stay in SG after april 19? You can always extend however there's no assurance that it will be approved.

Hi Jel,

First of all, nagpapasalamat ako sa'yo kasi very useful 'tong blogsite mo, lalo na sa mga katulad kong naghahanap ng work dyan sa SG.

Here is my case:

Pupunta po ko dyan sa SG this saturday April 9. I-aapply po ko ng SG friend ko ng Authenticated IL bukas wednesday. May IPA Letter na po ko. Gusto ko sanang i-consult sa inyo itong back-up plan ko just in case hindi succesful ung Authenticated IL:

Preparation for PHL Immigration:
- Return ticket 2 weeks (April 23 return ko, reason ko is 'Vacation on lenten season', 21 and 22 kasi holiday sa pinas)
- IL from my SG friend, signed (not authenticated)
- Show money (2k plus)

Sa tingin mo, gaano kalaki ung chance na makalusot me both PH and SG immigration?

Jel said...

Hi Andrew,

Unknown said...

Jel said...

Yup, yun yung sabi nung iba.

by email e send na nung host namin ung invitation letter plus his edentification.

Jel said...

i don't think so since wala namang PC ang mga PH IO unlike SG IO's na may PC bawat isa. Goodluck.

Anonymous said...

thank you po...e co confirm ko pa ung flight ko via internet..which is much better? cebu pac or pal? i mean in terms of immigration interview?

sana makalusot ako kahit IL lng (not authenticated) at residency ng host ang maipakita ko. do u think enough na un?ano pa ba kelangan? kasi po minadali ito...tsaka sayang din ung return flight ko which is on april 12.

Jel said...

How old is your nice? Pag bata kasi they require a DSWD certificate or something.

Yes it's better to have a hotel accommodation either along with the ticket or thru online hotel booking.

For documents just bring your employee id, documents to show your relation with your niece. Do a backread of comments and you'll find a lot more info.

Just let the IO know that you booked a backpacker hotel and show your booking slip. Hindi naman bawal magtipid e. Just bring your employee id's and contracts to show your currently employed in Philippines.

hi jel,

I worked in Sg for almost 4 years, now I am planning to go back as tourist, I have a pending re-appeal sa MOM tapos sabi ng employer ko I have to wait for 6 months kasi yung information they sent did not match from the previous application. I just want to go for a vacation and visit my friends, I am planning na magbook ng sq or pal kasi nga medyo troublesome daw pagbudget, I have show maney and credit cards. Pero I am planning na wag na humingi ng IL. do you think magkaproblema ko sa Immigration since i am not currently employed? pero nakapagtour na ko sa sg for 2x before pa ko ngwork.

Hope you can help me answer some of my inquires. thanks you..

Jel said...

Well it's up to you kung sasabihin mong ndi ka employed. You've covered the rest naman. Nasa sa iyo naman kung magpapaintimidate ka. Kung nakatatak pa sa passport mo yung last na 2 vacations mo sa SG then i guess you can use that kung bigyan ka ng problema.

Anonymous said...

Hi Jel, thanks for the very helpful blog... may work na ko here in SG and nkaalis ako sa Philippines kasi may kasama akong Epass holder. my concern is during the interview in PH IO, nagduda pa din sila kasi 1month ang 2way ticket ko, sinabihan ako na ibanned daw nila ako if hindi ako bumalik ng 1 month. Is it possible? or masyado lang ako nagworry too much sa panakot nila... no signed documents happen or indication sa passport ko about banned, verbal lng naman un.
Thanks...
-john

Jel said...

Hi John,

That's what i called intimidation. As long as nakakuha ka n ng work pass dito they can't prevent you to go back in forth in PH unless you're in a terrorist or No Fly list. However don't take my word on that, better consult a friend lawyer or something.

Anonymous said...

Its stupid, its a waste of time and if they thingking of human smuggling not this way. 1st thing you get the invitation letter but then you will pay and 2nd is there a lack of advertisements or information that you need to provide authenticated invitation letter.

plus this immigration officer what's there thinking Filipinos cannot afford to for vacation abroad. I hope Philippine Government will take action on this.

They will hold you, not let you in but then they will not refund or rebook your ticket. I'm so pissed off to this IO!!!!

Anonymous said...

hi jel,

jakki here again..bout my previous concerns, we do have already a 2way ticket for tour there in SG, and upon conversation from my friend's friend who is working there, e binigyan nya kami ng IL and she indicated her address too, a back to back copy of her company id and she stated too what kind of pass holder she has...
that time, we dont have yet the reservation for transient kasi naghahanap kmi ng malapit sa central, so she have to put her address, and stated that we (3 of us) will stay with her in and have a tour with her.. but my question is, the scanned IL was just sent to email, and we will bring a printed copy ofcourse to present and show if the IO will ask for it, but then, it was an prdinary printed paper, is it questionable? na hindi ito authenticated? at kailangan pa ba itong iauthenticate?kasi sa nagyon, nkapgpareserve na kmi ng transient room kaso hindi nga raw sila nagbbgay ng IL and besides ung reservation confirmation na pinadala nya thru email, e very informal, stated that she got the reservation fee and the balance would be given upon our arrival in SG.. in that case naiintindihan nmin sya... do u think it would bring us big problem?

Anonymous said...

(jakki) again..meron pa pala ako concern, kasi ung 2 kasama ko e working here in the phils, but me, not working in company at all since 2009...what i just have now iss..business. sarisari store lang, panu un, magiging prob ba ulit un?

Jel said...

Jakki,

To my knowledge yung IL na dpat binigay syo is authenticated sa phil embassy in sg then sent the orig to you via courier.

So from what I understood instead of booking an hotel e ngtransient kyo. E no choice yun n lng sabihin nyo. Mas mura kmo e.

Just bring your business permit.

hi Jel!

i had my OJT at SG before and was asked by my previous employer to go back to SG. Approved na work permit ko and hr advised me to have medical (which is done already) and ask someone preferably a relative who is in SG to make me an invitation letter as the immigration in Philippine airports are very strict nowadays. (i believe because of the election) I have asked my cousin (we're not close even she's my 1st cousin) to make me one but never got any reply from her. i have friends working at SG who are willing to get me an AIL. should i just ask a friend to secure me an AIL or pursue with my cousin!

Hi Jel

I am going to SG next weekend as a tourist, I have complete docs (invi letter. passport, showmoney, etc). Right now my work is online (work at home) so I do not have an ID, but my employer from the UK, sent me an original copy of certificate of employment, would that be enough to show to the Immigration? Will they really require an employment ID?

thanks, waiting for your reply.

I guess you have no choice but to bring the Cert of Employment. If you don't have an ID then just explain to the IO if they asked. If not don't bring it up or don't even show any docs unless requested.

Jel,
I have a cousin who have worked in Singapore for several years. He invited me to visit him in Singapore but he asked me to search and learn how it's done. Now, my older brother has visited Singapore last year with an invitation letter from his friend, but he told me that Singapore has a new process of sending/making invitions. For this, I really need your wise advice or suggestion. My 1st degree cousin is earning quite well in Singapore and is willing to spend everything for me like food, accomodation, and other expenses. Do I still have to bring "show money" with me? How much should I prepare? I really hope to hear from you. Your blog is really a big help.
More power to you..

Jel said...

To be honest i've never experienced bringing show money. I also do not understand the logic of the show money if one is invited to have a vacation in Singapore since we do not apply visa for ASEAN member countries.
Also if your Cousin will bear some of the costs then the only money you need is for Souvenirs and minor expenses outside. If you have a credit card then mot of the purchases can be done using that.
Also there's a maximum amount of cash you can only bring outside of the country. If i remember correctly it was 10k pesos. Unless you put your cash in Check-in which is dangerous.

Hi Iyay,

If you've got no friends or relatives in SG then what you can do? Just tell the IO that you're going for pleasure. For your accommodation just tell them that based on your research and experience in Taiwan it's not very hard to find a Hotel. You can just ask the cab to bring you to the nearest one and your off.
Just in case bring your business permit back in PH. Of course IO will ask where do you get your income to afford a vacation in SG so a proof of your business registered under your name can help.
Remember not to be intimidated and just tell the IO whatever you told me. Good luck and have a safe trip.

Jel said...

Kung ksabay mo sya sa flight to singapore then you dont need an IL. About the show money I'm not sure. Going to singapore or any ASEAN membet country does not require visa.

Sorry but I can't assure you that :) it really depends on the IO

HI JEL. UPON PURCHASING OF 2-WAY TICKETS TO SINGAPORE, THE TICKETING OFFICE DOESN'T ASK OR REQUIRE SOMETHING EXCEPT FOR PASSPORT, OF COURSE? ABOUT THE INTERVIEW IN THE IMMIGRATION OFFICER, WILL IT BE ON THE SAME DAY AS YOUR FLIGHT SCHEDULE? AND AS FAR AS I CONCERNED, WHY IT DOES NOT ALLOW TO BRING MORE THAN 10K PESOS WHERE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BRING SUFFICIENT CASH AS WE ARE GOING AS A TOURIST? WHAT LOGIC IS THIS? OR I CAN BRING CASH MORE THAN 10K PESOS BUT ONLY THE 10K PESOS WILL BE SHOWN, THE REST WILL BE KEPT? OR I WILL MAKE 10K PESOS THEN THE REST WILL BE CONVERTED TO SINGAPOREAN DOLLAR WHILE STILL IN THE PHILIPPINES. BUT I HAVE TO SHOW THEM ONLY THE 10K PESOS. PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE FOR THIS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. MORE POWER ON YOUR BLOG.

Jel said...

Yes only the passport is required.

Interview of IO is after you Check-in to your flight.

Yes, sounds stupid right? You can bring more than 10k pesos by converting some of it into foreign currencies and there's also a limit to that. I think this is to prevent money laundering but your guess is as good as mine. Anyways its dangerous to bring loads of cash even if you checked-in it. Better bring a CreditCard.

Thanks. I'm glad to help. If you want to support my blog please download the BitAdvertiser toolbar and click some ads. You won't get virus or anything. Just close the ads after you clicked them. Thanks a lot in advance!

hi jel,
i've heard very strict na mga IO naten d2.. im just worried kung mkakalusot kmi ng friend ko na guy... palalabasin kse namen na mag bf/gf kmi mas may chance ba pag ganun cnabi namen?... purpose talaga namen is to work dun.. my cousin ako na andun, pde kaya 2 kmi nakalagay sa invitation letter? thanks...

Jel said...

Hi Mayleen,

Well sometimes IO asks for proof na talagang may relationship kyo like photos from your handphones, questions about your history together, etc. At least that's what i've heard. Yes both of you can be included in one IL.

hi jel
i just came last week at naia terminal 3 to fetch the yaya of my son.. and i asked about the information going to singapore.. they ask me what airlines sa i told them its cebu pacific..they said if your friend is a PR then theres no promblem to get through.. but if your friend is only s-pass.. then you should bring a two way ticket. a show money worth 20 thousand in peso bill.and any business permit..just to justify..

Anonymous said...

Jel said...

Besides the letterhead of your father's company also bring some proof of your relationship like a photo with a timestamp. I think they're particularly strict since your BF is a Foreigner and they're watching out for human traffickers.

HI JEL. THIS IS JUNIOR OF CEBU.

I'M GOING TO PURCHASE A 2-WAY TICKET FOR SINGAPORE WITH AN INTERVAL ONLY OF 5 DAYS (BACK AND FORTH)SINCE I WILL BE GOING AS A TOURIST. THIS IS TO LESSEN SEVERAL QUESTIONS IN THE IO.
BUT SUPPOSED TO BE, I HAVE TO STAY FOR 30 DAYS IN SINGAPORE TO SEEK FOR A JOB. WHICH 5 DAYS VALIDITY OF MY 2-WAY TICKET IS NOT ENOUGH,RIGHT?
UPON ARRIVAL IN SINGAPORE, WHO WILL GIVE ME A 30 DAYS VISIT PASS WHERE MY TICKET IS ONLY VALID WITHIN 5 DAYS?
IN THIS CASE, THE RETURN TICKET IS PART OF MY INVESTMENT IN SEEKING FOR A JOB IN SINGAPORE BECAUSE I WON'T HAVE TO USE IT.
WILL THEY OFFER ME 30 DAYS VISIT PASS? AND AT THE SAME TIME, DO I HAVE TO DO REBOOKING OF MY RETURN TICKET? OR NEVER I MENTION AT THAT TIME YET BECAUSE I AM ENTERING AS A TOURIST.
THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.

Jel said...

Even if SG IO also gave you 5 days only since your ticket duration is 5 days, you can always extend it in MOM for 30 days. Then you can just rebook your return ticket.

hi,

i have a trip this coming friday to singapore, and was a bit nervous if id be able to surpass our philippine immigration since they have been very strict with regard to someone who's flying alone and without work.

i just ended a contract with my previous work and i will be flying alone. i have my ticket with me with a returning date as well. i will stay there for 6 days.

what will i do?

i have an invitation letter already from my cousin but is not authenticated attached as well is her IC ID.

this is my 2nd time to go to SG. my first stay in there took me 29 days, i got worried they might thought that i'll do that again. which actually not.

im really just nevrous because i'll be flying alone, and just ended a contract. they might thought i'd go there to look for a job.

PS. i didnt resigned, i ended a contract. do i still need to bring my contract as supporting papers?

though i still have my COMPANY ID WITH ME AND MY LEAVE LETTER FROM MY MANAGER. do you think would it be better if i lie? even though my contract just ended? im afraid they'd call our office and someone from the office would tell i just ended my contract.

but that's the least option, as uch as possible i would want them to know that i dont have a work anymore.

please help me on what to do and what to say.

thanks,
gwen

thanks!
gwen

Jel said...

Hi Gwen,

You didn't just asked me if you need to lie or not, right? Haha.

Let me put it this way, do you think the IO will go to the trouble of calling your company to check?

Hi,
Me and my friend booked a two wAy ticket for sg, we'll be staying there for 5 days.. Her uncle will be sending an invitation letter for the two us, my main concern is, ok lang ba na nakisama lang aku sa invitation ng friend ko? They're related kasi at aku hindi, baka makalusot sya at aku hindi.. How do i explain that sa IO?? I do have a company ID but small private company sya owned by my father's cousin.. Dun aku nag work.. Please help..

Thanks
Gracy

Jel said...

This is not an issue. As long as your name is indicated in the IL. Looks like you've done your homework. Just enjoy your stay here.

gracy said...

Thanks for the reply... I got another prob, i just found out while ago that my name was not included in the invitation letter sa friend ko galing uncle nya.. And so now, im worried that i might be denied pero we'll still flyin together (me and my friend) an we'll be staying at sa house ng uncle nya.. What am i gonna supposed to say sa IO durimg interview?? Eh sya lang ung may invitation.. :( i am really worried..

Jel said...

Ask your friend not to show her IL unless she's asked to. Insist na kasama ka dapat dun. maybe her Uncle just forgot you which is very possible.

gracy said...

Thanks again for the reply, yeah his uncle forgot to include me, ask ko lang are we gonna ( me and my friend) go together during the interview?? Sa itinerary kasi nandun ung dalawang names namin..or isa isa kami haharap sa IO.. And if one by one kami haharap sa IO am i gonna let her go first o aku? She's the only one got the invitation eh..

Jel said...

Hi Gracy,

Pero as much as possible sabay kyo. Ur welcome, by the way please support my blog by clicking some of the ads, thanks.

Hi,

few questions lang :)

i have travelled US already ang has my US visa, been to SG last year and will be coming back this coming friday and will stay for 6 days only. i didnt have my invitation letter authenticated and i just ended a contract with my work last june 20th.

im planning to take my masters this coming september and i have my admission slip that i am scheduled for an entrance exam this coming july 14. can i show that as one of my supporting documents aside from my invitation letter that wasnt authenticated from my cousin?

would there be a possibility that i will be denied in our philippine immigration?

what's the best thing to do?

thanks,
anne

hi jel! i have some question regarding of my uncle tht living in phil, going to SG this coming friday.he dont have any suporting letters or an invitation letters from me.all he have is just a round trip ticket.is it posible tht he can come over w/out that letter? thats all for now, thank u and good day!!!!

Jel said...

Ideally there should be an authenticated IL but i wouldn't be able to answer you since i don't know what is your Uncle's age, source of income, those sort of things. Most of the time i think IO judges based on perception. If they perceived that the only purpose is vacation then i think they would let it go. From that you can assess his chances.

Jel said...

Hi Anne,

You can definitely use those as proof. However if they still deny you then i think they might be looking for another "proof" if you know what i mean. Anyways all the best.

good day!!!
me and my cousin are planning to visit our uncle and his wife (an indonesian) in singapore next week.mu auntie just gave birth and they want us to visit them..we have the authenticated invitation letter from them (original) and few cash in our pocket..however both of us doesn't have work here since we are both undergraduate. is this a big deal? what are we going to say when we are asked about this? thanks in advance. =)

Jel said...

Just tell them the truth which is your both undergraduates. Bring some documentations.

hi jell..
this coming september 5 me and my wife will be going to singapore for a vacation, we already have our tickets for 4 days..is do we have to have any supporting papers like invitation that we dont have any friends or relative living there, is do we need any of that?? and can you help us by telling some best places where is cheap and staying there for 4 days that not in the hotel but you can say it is nice place to stay(to have sleep)...tnx for your time~!~

Anonymous said...

hi jell. me and my wife are going to singapore this september for 4 days, we already have our plane ticket with us, its just im thingking if the immigration will ask us about the invitation letter or smething like supporting papers cause we will only take visit singapore for a vacation..?? and can you name us a better place for accommodation but in a cheaper price...tnx for your time bro.>!!

Jel said...

Well if you don't have any relatives then what can you do? I think the IO won't give you a hard time on this since you're a couple having a 4 days vacation only. Just bring your company id's as a proof that you're currently employed.
I would still suggest you stay in a hotel for convenience, privacy and security and it would be like your honeymoon. There are hotels that charges S$60 - S$150 per night. If you're on a tight budget you can do a search in google this search query temporary+daily+charge+singapore+bed
Some charges between S$10 to S$30 per day but of course you won't have privacy.

There is no such rule regarding the invitation letter.

Here are the requirements for a Filipino tourist to travel out of the philippines:

http://immigration.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=239&Itemid=80

Even the consul in SG did not specifically say that it will be required. He said it "may" be required (Such as during special cases when your destination is a country currently at war or civil unrest, where there is no real reason why you would want to be a tourist there. SG does not fall in that category). But then again, even if you have it, the consul said that it is not a guarantee.

There is no such rule nor law, or official memo. It is a double-standard baseles rule that IOs are implementing on random female filipino first-time tourists. Gigipitin ka nila hanggang maglagay ka.

We just had a visitor, first time filipina traveller last month. Wala sya invitation. Hindi sya pinayagan. Nanindigan sya. Finally, pinayagan sya.

It's good to have an invitation letter if you can get it. But there is no immigration law that says it is required.

Jel said...

Which is why I've been saying numerous times that they shouldn't get intimidated.

hi jel,
Good day! I have read all the comments here, i hope that it will help me to solve my problem. I was uploaded twice in the immigration, because of some reasons. What will i do to go there para hindi nako ma upload next time. i will just arrive there in sg airport, but after that i will transit directly to batam Indonesia. Does it possible for me to go there even my passport noted O for offloaded at the back? Pls help me what will i do.. Thanks and God bless!

Hi Jel,

I was the one who had OJT in Singapore. I already got an invitation letter from my filipino colleague nung nag-OJT ako dun. pero papalabasin kong family friend namin sya.. I'll be travelling alone this coming Sunday. 2-way ticket Philippine Airlines. Saturday ang arrival sa Pinas. (which i'm not going to use since may nkaabang na work sa akin dyan sa SG) I'll tell the IO officer na mamasyal lng ako. I already resigned with my company but didn't surrender my company id since i will need to present it sa immigration.

will my story suffice? do you think i can surpass the immigration with those documents and reasons?

Thanks!!!

Jel said...

It depends sa duration ng return ticket mo. Kung mga 1 week lang i think there's no issue.

Jel said...

Since you read through the comments then i guess you'll have an idea of why you're being offloaded. So you're the only one who can prevent being offloaded next time. You must have a ready answer when IO asks you about that.

Hi jel!

i've seen all the conversations here and it gave me a lot of ideas but scared me at the same time. i don't know how you're going to assess my situation but pls help me.

I'm booked for Singapore this aug5-12 (return date) via cebupac and will only be traveling alone. my friend, who is a guy and has his job there, will pretend to be my boyfriend and will have his birthday on the same day of aug 5. he'll be sending me an original copy of invitation letter consularized by phil. embassy stating we are boyfriends and will celebrate his birthday there.

on the date of departure, i will be bringing the round-trip e-ticket (for them to see my return booking), consularized invitation letter with attached passport of my friend. what else do you think are the things that i'll be needing to be confident on making this happen? thanks! hope you respond asap because it makes me go crazy. thanks so much! :)

Jel said...

I totally understand. It seems that you've covered your bases so you can start relaxing now.Just bring your company id or some sort of proof that you're currently employed in PH. Good luck!

Hazelle Joyce Coloso said...

actually i resigned in my company. good thing hr head is my friend so i can seek for his help in terms of a formal leave certificate signed by him and with all his contact details in a letterhead. it will state that out of my personal request for support document, they are sending their certification that i'm still currently employed in the company and will only take vacation leave for singapore.

do you think that this is a good idea or will only look defensive? btw, company id is not a prob with me. thanks jel for reminding me :)

also, my friend is not really my bf. we really don't have pic together because it was 2008 since we last saw each other. will that be a prob? or can i reason out that we know each other ever since but the relationship only began recently so pictures will only be taken when i go to sg (hahaha sounds funny!) i honestly don't know what to show up if ever they'll ask me for that. thank you again!

Jel said...

Hi Hazelle,

Don't show any docs to IO if they didn't ask for it.

Regards to being "in a relationship" sometimes trying too hard is the problem. Simple gestures like holding hands or your BF carrying your Bag is sufficient enough. If he's a friend then there should be no problem.

Goodluck!

shemazul said...

hi jel, is it ok to re use the invitation letter? if in case you want to revisit within the year?

thank you

Jel said...

I don't see anything wrong with it unless the IL is marked or dated. However I'm not aware of expiration for IL.

Hi, Jel. I am scheduled to travel to Sg next month. My cousin in Sg is willing to send me an invitation letter. A friend of mine wants to go with me and asked me if she can be included in the invitation letter. Is it possible for us to be invited in one letter even if she's not a relative? Would this causes me or both of us to be refused? Kindly, tell me the probability.
Thanks a lot and more power to you.

Jel said...

No, it's totally fine. There's no issue.

Hi Jel,

Would like to inquire if you know of any Immigration lawyer/organizations that can help Filipinos who are having immigration troubles in Singapore? It doesn't have to be free, but I'm hoping their service fee would be reasonable. My sister is working as a maid there but the agency that was supposed to be paying her taxes and insurance ran away with her and 2 other maids' money, never to be seen again. Now they found out their taxes weren't paid for a few months and that their working permits are expired.

I am willing to help her pay for a lawyer who can help her straighten things out but like I said I hope it is going to be reasonable. Is it true that she could face jail time? She is very scared and I am too far away, here in Canada actually, to help her. Please let me know if you can recommend any.

Thanks a lot,
Jasmin
